Purpose & Background

Background

My name is Jason Makstein. I am a parent of 3 kids that was raised in Moco and decided to raise my children here as well. I have never belonged to a political part until I just changed registration to Democrat for the upcoming June 28 Democratic primary.

I feel that the two party system elevates the most extreme voices and creates more division and hate than needs to be. It also creates immense fissures in our society and this extremism is magnified by the media and social media.

I am against tribalism, teams, exclusion and bullying in general and I feel the two party system feeds all of these.

What can be done?

There are 155,000 registered independents in Moco. This is about 20% of all registered voters and primaries tend to have low turnouts so even just a fraction of independents organizing can have a large impact if we all voted in the Democratic Primary

There are also many more independent minded democrats and republicans who are only in those parties to be able to vote.

We will work to gather Independents and others together that feel everyone should be able to vote when it counts and push for a future where you aren’t forced to join a political party in order to have a sayin local elections.

There are lots of other groups to discuss the hot button issues so lets try to stick away from that and focus on more common things about why we are independents.
